(10:45 PM CST) 3Dfx Voodoo 3
Yummy...all sorts of cool things going on today. At Comdex, 3Dfx had a demo board of their third generation card, called (oh so surprisingly), the Voodoo 3. Here's a quote from AnandTech that caught my eye:

The cards will be available in an AGP 2X flavor (none of the AGP 1X Banshee crap), they will both be an integrated 2D/3D solution, and the Voodoo3 chipset will boast dual texture processing units like the Voodoo2. According to 3Dfx, the 8.1 million transistors found on the Voodoo3 will be able to process more than 100 billion operations per second, more than 7 million triangles per second, 366 million texels per second, and overall it should offer about 2 - 3x the performance of a Voodoo2 SLI. From AnandTech's brief encounter with 3Dfx this morning, the closest thing to a relative benchmark would be the claim that a Pentium II system running the current revision of the Voodoo3 silicon was able to achieve 30.1 fps in Quake 2 at 1600 x 1200, in comparison to the absolutely unplayable < 15 fps of a similar configuration on a Riva TNT.

(10:32 PM CST) New WinAmp: 2.05
Silly me, forgot to post this - yup, new Winamp (again). They have too much time on their hands...download it by clicking here. Here's a direct rip off of BetaNews:

Nullsoft has released Winamp 2.05, new in this version includes:
  • wVis 4.0 (better fullscreen support, new effects, higher quality rendering!)
  • Preliminary CDDB support. It rocks!
  • Massively better HTTP streaming. Even allows you to psuedo-stream MOD and MIDI files!
  • Much improved MOD/XM/IT playback.
  • A lot of new IPC stuff (for plug-in authors)
  • Bugfixes galore

(10:14 PM CST) ICQ 99a Build 1620 Out
This is the newest build of the new ICQ...don't have it available for local download yet, but I'll see if I can grab it from somewhere and post it up here later. Oh, and you can check the build that you're currently running by hitting the ICQ button -> Help -> About, and ICQ'll spit out all of that info.

(2:05 AM CST) Anime stuff
If you're interested at all in anime (which you damn well should be - if not, see me), here are a couple of sites that could make your day:

http://www.poshnet.com/Asuka/music/

ftp://kame.usr.dsi.unimi.it/pub/IAC/sorted

I've already gotten all of the Eva that they had to offer - it's all available from the new songs directory on the FTP server. I'm replacing the other copy of Eva that I had on the server, because this one is much more organized, has way more songs, etc. There are still three more CDs worth of soundtrack for Eva that I'm trying to track down, but Andrew has two of those, so it's just the Eva: Addition CD that I need to find. If I can't find it, I may buy it just to complete the collection...

(11:48 PM CST) Value of Studying
I just read this off of Louis' page:

...also, what the hell with studying the most for the easiest tests? It seems like the more I study, the easier the test gets. I know that there are some benefits to studying, but when everyone says "that was the easiest fuc*ing test I've taken", you know you've wasted your time.
Okay - here's my $0.02. The test he's referring to is probably the Chemistry test, which did seem easy - but we studied for it. Am I the only one who thinks that a test should seem easier the more you study for it? Isn't that the point? I only say this because almost every test I had at Clements seemed hard because I would almost never study - quite literally. I'd only take the book home just to feel like I wasn't a total slacker. :)

(For those of you who don't know, I'm not quite the slacker I used to be - still a bit of one, but getting better)

(10:47 PM CST) FrontPage 2000
I thought this was pretty interesting for those of you who handwrite HTML:

Another huge change is that FrontPage no longer reformats your HTML files like it used to. If you create an HTML document in Notepad for example, and want to edit it in FrontPage, Frontpage will not add indents or other page formatting to the file. I think we will see a lot of Notepad users move over to FrontPage 2000 because of its combined power and ease of use.

(10:42 PM CST) New SoundBlaster drivers
If you own a SoundBlaster card (SoundBlaster 16, Vibra 16, AWE32, AWE64), you should download the latest drivers, released just yesterday by Creative Labs. No idea what they do, but you should download them anyway. :)

(10:40 PM CST) New Websites
There are some websites that I hadn't put up a link for, but I finally remembered to do it...welcome - Andrew, Tina, and Bryan to the page. :)

(10:34 PM CST) Server news
Just a few updates on what's up with the server:

  • Neo Genesis: Evangelion soundtrack!
  • Complete Movies: Braveheart, Mask of Zorrow, Urban Legends, and Disturbing Behavior
  • Coming soon:
    • 10 or so new music videos
    • software!

So far, the server's only crashed once, and I think it's because Andrew got too close to it while we were watching the concluding movie of Eva and hexed it...it's been going great, otherwise! If anyone has ideas for things that can go on the server, just drop me a line on ICQ...thanks!

(12:32 AM CST) 12 days...
I know, I'm being a hypocrite for counting down, but just 12 more days until I see people for Thanksgiving...woohoo! If you're not going to be around then, you'll just have to wait until winter... :P

Yes, very short notes this time, but I'm in a short note kinda mood. :P

(12:26 AM CST) Veteran's Day
...was the day before yesterday. For some of you, it should have brought back some nice memories. Oh, and I need to get a good copy of the presentation, so I can export it to VHS tape, after fixing the transitions, and a few other minor details. Then we can have a semi-immortalization at Clements...scary, huh? :)

(12:22 AM CST) Neo Genesis: Evangelion
Just saw the last movie.

Incredible.

This will be watched again during winter break - I STRONGLY recommend you see this one...

(12:01 AM CST) Sports...
Spent two hours playing raquetball and squash with Andrew and George today - if your rec center has the courts, go play. Much more fun than working out, and a lot of fun in and of itself.

(4:13 PM CST)
Okay, as much fun as it is to, well, make fun of Shang, today IS her 18th birthday so...we'll just have to make fun of her MORE! :)

(4:05 PM CST) Finally!
I haven't updating for the last couple of days, and for very good reason. The new 17 gig drive came in yesterday, so I spent most of last night and the better part of today configuring it and transferring every single MP3 that I have over to it (around 10.1GB, currently). I'll probably put on useful software to fill up the rest of the space, until more room is needed for MP3s. Upload! :)

(2:30 PM CST) UPS is sloooowwww....
Nope, didn't find that magic little slip in our mailbox that tells us when a package has arrived...but according to George, UPS will deliver on Saturdays, too, so I may get it tomorrow (this is about the 17 gig hard drive, by the way). So the FTP site will be down for a bit longer, unfortunately. It is up right now, but only for the main MP3 directory, not any of the MP3s on the 5 CDs that I had to burn to backup before formatting...

(2:22 PM CST) New ICQ - 99a
A lot of you have already gotten this, but just in case you haven't, you can download the new ICQ by clicking right here.

:) Ya, ya, ya, ya, yah. No site updates for a LONG time. No good reason, except that I'm lazy and had to spend time actually working for a decent GPA! :O

There is good news, though. The FTP site will probably be back up tomorrow, and will have the following features:
-no down time
-MUCH more MP3s and software

All because I bit the bullet and bought a 17 gig hard drive, and it should come in on Friday, Nov. 6. And I'll be installing it on my server computer, which runs Windows NT Server 4.0, which can stay up and running without reboot for a long time - I finally got all of the hardware failures worked out of that system, so it should stay up for at least 2 months at a time. So if...no, wait...when my computer screws up next time, it will have absolutely no effect on the FTP site. :)

Oh, and I'll also post Prom pics, Colorado pics, Colorado video, etc, as soon as I figure out how to layout all of the images and how to format them...I really do need to the keep the pages modem friendly, even though I would LOVE to cater to Ethernet people only and put 40 megs of images on a single page... :)

Later all - Taligent.
