(12:00 AM CST) ...things...
  • Another high school shooting spree. Two students, guns, pipe bombs, gernades, and random firing. Up to 25 dead, including shooter suicides. Somebody tell me why a mind with any wits about it would choose to not only destroy itself, but to bring others along for the ride. Fun society - we can shred away the deepest instinct of carbon based life.
  • Not long before NATO countries pull out all the stops in Yugoslavia (or what's left of it). Why do I get the strange feeling that Nostradamus wasn't talking about Hussein at all...
  • India is out in the open without a government for now - the previous party was voted out. That makes for 6 (governments) in the last 3 years. "Everybody knows, that the world is full of ..." (fill in the blanks from Santa Monica).
  • The courts do work sometimes. A judge is withholding physical custody of an infant from a HIV postive mother who insists on breastfeeding, ignoring all accumulated data pointing towards risk of infection by doing so. She was lucky enough the kid wasn't born with the disease, and now she's playing the famous Russian game. At least she's following her natural instincts. She could teach the kids in Colorado a little bit about that.
  • New breed of painkillers out...if you know someone who needs it, Celebrex and Vioxx are a couple of the newest arthritis drugs out - nice thing is that they seem to be much safer than the current standard class of painkillers, the NSAIDs.
  • For now, cancer rates are going down, mostly because of men who quit smoking sometime during the 70s and 80s. Which sucks, because the latest rash of smoking trends are probably going to bring the rate back up to all new highs in a decade or so. I wonder if smokers have seen what a lung looks like. I'll let you guys know what one feels like sometime next year if I get a chance. Some nice things that happen when a person stops smoking.
    Some not nice things.
  • Eat more potatoes. The RDA for vitamin C is probably going to go up from 60mg/day to 200mg/day because of some, er...fruitful data. (had to do it, forced at gunpoint and all).
  • Attention George, Louis, and Nasser - don't park your new cars outside. This might happen.

(4:13 PM CST) FTP Server
Lots of things happening...
  • Working as a supplier for a couple of music video groups, so I can distribute the encoding load to other people - naturally, if the quality sucks on their videos I'll do them myself, but I'll see how this works out.
  • Hit the software scene for a brief burst and added a lot of things to New Software - notably, Office 2000 (yes, the final version, nope, it's not in stores yet), Norton Utilities 4, KPT 5, Windows 2000 build 2020, and others.
  • New Songs is pretty healthy...I have a couple more of Andrew's CDs to rip/encode - probably up next week.

(4:09 PM CST) Cut the fat...
...off of the bottom of this page. It was getting pretty shaggy - which reminds me, I need to get a haircut...

(9:31 PM CST) Nuclear Fusion
Take a look at this article over on ABC News - interesting update on what our successors can look forward to. Oh, and we may all be dead by the time 2040 rolls around...

(9:14 PM CST) Phantom Menace Novel
Just a little blurb I came across:
The novelization of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace will be released on May 3 by Ballantine Books, more than two weeks before the film hits theaters.
Soooo....if you want to ruin the fun, you can pick that up and find out what's going to happen. Just don't go around telling the rest of us - no spoilers shall fall upon these ears...

(8:20 PM CST) Just going to say this over and over...

I love User Friendly. =)

*updated* 8:55 p.m. - made a slight mod. to the picture...
(7:42 PM CST) New ICQ and Winamp
Nice coincidence...ICQ Build 1701 is out, and so is WinAmp 2.11 (though somewhat unofficially, the WinAmp website hasn't been updated yet).

Winamp's updated stuff:
  • MSaudio 4.0 (WMA) input/output support
  • Generic PCM EQ that works on most formats (WAV/XM/MOD/IT/VQF/AAC/etc)
  • Minibrowser improvements
  • Fixed vis/dsp plug-in directory bugs
  • Fixed de-registration problem.
  • Fixed CDDA support
  • Fixed a few small bugs
Download - ICQ 99a 2.15 Build 1701 (3.96MB)
Download - Winamp 2.11 (608KB)

* updated 8:05 p.m. CST - Removed the ICQ link because of installation problems.

(1:48 AM CST) Many phone calls and emails later...
Trip plans, version 2.7. Major changes include:

  • Updated intinerary
  • Finalized condo info
  • Updated places/dates
  • Updated transportation
  • Updated cost info
  • Updated cost sheet & cost note
I know it's a drag, but read completely through the packet, because we update a lot of the info - at first glance, it looks the same, but parts of it are different. Oh, and btw, whenever it says that we have something reserved, we have that reserved. We're out of the preliminary and into what's actually happening. Another thing is who to talk to...if you have a concern about the plans, talk to me. For anything else, talk to George...I'm dumping the hardest part of this (talking to everyone and working the payments) on him (sorry man :).
